News release issued October 3, 2019.

The Health Plan (THP), the only health maintenance organization headquartered in West Virginia, and MedExpress, a neighborhood health care provider, announced that, as of October 1, 2019, MedExpress’ 26 centers in West Virginia will be in network for THP members. THP members will resume the same benefits of care at all MedExpress locations according to their previously established copay rates.

Founded in West Virginia, MedExpress centers care for people of all ages, providing urgent care, employer health services and basic wellness and prevention services. Centers have multiple exam rooms, a procedure room and an X-ray suite and are open every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Walk-in treatment is available for everyday illness and injury, including more advanced services such as X-rays, labs, minor surgery, stitches and treatment for broken bones, sprains and strains.

In addition, as part of the renewed relationship, THP and MedExpress are collaborating to provide well-child screenings to children. This no-cost screening is available to children ages 3-21 who are enrolled in THP’s Medicaid plan. Well-child screenings help ensure children with Medicaid insurance can receive timely health screenings by a health care professional and are an important part of creating good health outcomes for children.

“This renewed relationship, as well as our collaborative efforts surrounding well-child screenings, serve the best interest of patients and the community and affirms The Health Plan and MedExpress’ shared commitment to patient-centered, convenient care,” said Dean Hatcher, president, MedExpress.

Noting the convenience that MedExpress offers THP members, President & CEO, James Pennington said of the recent agreement, “We recognize the value that MedExpress provides to our members in urgent care services,” he continued, “and we’re looking forward to a refreshed relationship with MedExpress that allows us to do what we do best – provide quality care at an affordable price.”

A not-for-profit organization, THP has offered member coverage at MedExpress dating back to their beginnings in the state of West Virginia. In 2018, MedExpress provided medical care to approximately 35,000 THP members.
