With summer underway, more people are enjoying the outdoors but that also comes with a risk.

Experts at MedExpress Urgent Care in Fayetteville said during summer months they see more patients compared to other times of the year.

It's simply because people more are active.

But while injuries such as sprains and broken bones can happen any time, summer brings additional dangers such as poison ivy breakouts and sunburns.

"As far as sunburn goes, we recommend you use a sunscreen that's SPF 30 or greater. It needs to be applied about 30 minutes before you go out into the sun, and if you're swimming or sweating, you need to reapply after that and then reapply every two hours," said Melody McGuire, nurse practitioner for MedExpress.

McGuire also stresses the importance of staying hydrated, especially on warmer days.

She suggests drinking plenty of water and taking frequent shade breaks if possible.
