MedExpress physician assistant Jennifer Sherman addresses common summer health risks.

It's the time of the year when many people are enjoying the great outdoors, but being outside in this heat, can become dangerous.

MedExpress physician assistant Jennifer Sherman stopped by Local4 Today with some safety reminders when you in hot weather.

She said people need to hydrate properly and have a water bottle with them if they are going to be outdoors for a long period of time.

Some signs of dehydration include abdominal cramps, dark urine, sweating profusely and then not.

Also make sure that you are wearing the proper clothing and using sunscreen. The important part is that you need to reapply.

For those who are traveling during the summer, be sure to pack a health kit. That could include alcohol-based hand sanitizer, Motrin, aspirin, allergy medication and diarrhea medication.
